Mosaic Crafters
Northern Cape
Six mosaic crafters were trained in the art of mosaic making. With these skills they were commissioned to create a number of large mosaic murals which now grace the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature in Kimberley.
At the end of this contract, Shapiro assisted some of these crafters to design a relevant craft product that they could market to craft shops.
To this end, portraits of President Thabo Mbeki and former President Nelson Mandela were designed in a size that could easily be transported by tourists.
The mosaic portrait of former President Nelson Mandela was used for the cover of the Kulula inflight magazine.
